While sitting at home with his new child, Tiger remained in 4th place in the Fedex Cup only 4,950 points behind Steve Stricker (104,950 points) who won this weekend at The Barclays. I can’t help but think this is not what the organizers of the Fedex Cup thought would happen when they drew up the rules last year. Golf is a very interesting sport in that the athletes have more freedom to control their calendars then in any other sport. But then again this is a special situation with Tiger and his dominance is rearing its ugly head to damage the sport. Imagine what would happen if the Red Wings decided to throw the first game in the Stanley Cup Play-offs best of seven just so they could rest?

Hello again from the World Golf Tour!!
We will be launching an updated version of the PGA.com Charity Challenge on Tuesday, August 14th. This new tournament includes some new skill shots, faster greens and stronger winds. Let’s see if the scores for this version can match the scores from the last tournament!
The tournament will last until August 30th, at which point we will do a random drawing to give away a brand-new TaylorMade Burner Driver! To qualify for the drawing, all you have to do is complete one round between August 14th and August 30th. We will also be awarding World Golf Tour Adidas golf shirts and a sleeve of TaylorMade golf balls for 10 new players who register during this time period…so make sure you tell your friends about the game.
All of your current scores, replays, teams and awards will be wiped out to prepare for this new tournament so everyone will start with a clean slate. If you want to keep a record of one of your heroic shots from the first tournament you should screen capture your replays using a shareware screen capture product before Tuesday the 14th.
Thanks for your support and see you on the course!!

Kiawah Island Golf Resort is rated the #1 U.S. Golf Resort by Travel + Leisure Golf magazine and after spending some time there, I can see why. The Sanctuary at Kiawah itself is embellished with amazing ocean views, white-glove concierge service, impeccable luxurious rooms, a tranquil Spa, timely shuttle service to and from any of their 5 courses, and to top it all off…the Ocean Room, a Mobil 4 Star & AAA 4 Diamond restaurant. All of these elements combine to make for one amazing experience.
While at Kiawah Island, we spent the majority of our time at the Pete Dye-designed Ocean Course, the main attraction. Here we found what many describe as the “tale of two cities” where the front nine are composed amid marsh-lined forest paths and the back 9 ribbon which spans about 3 miles alongside the Atlantic Ocean. The Driving Range is located directly between the two, making for an unmatched layout and a truly one-of-a-kind experience.
The local staff we worked with, during our preliminary shoot of the Ocean Course, was very accommodating and personable. Throughout our stay, we were given complete access to their caddy’s station for our equipment, storage, and cart needs while conducting our light studies from dawn to dusk. An added bonus to the scouting trip was the unexpected exclusive tour and back-story of their newly erected 24,000-square-foot clubhouse – scheduled to open this month of August.
Overall, it was an amazing experience and we can’t wait to go back to photograph the full course later this year.

For the first time ever, St. Andrews is hosting a professional women’s golf tournament, the 2007 British Open. Not only are the women playing the fabled St. Andrews course, they are also able to enter the Royal & Ancient Club clubhouse behind the first tee. This is a remarkable step for the stodgy membership of the Royal & Ancient who has historically not been open to having women in their clubhouse. Obviously this is a huge step forward for the R&A and one that was badly needed. Too bad they are only implementing this change for one week!
The women, so far, seem to be enjoying playing the Old Course. The golf at St. Andrews is so different from what they are used to playing in the US. “The greens are very strange and interesting,” said Wie, who tied for 69th at last week’s Evian Masters. “They’re like Mount Everest on the greens basically, and you have to putt from 50 yards away. It’s just so amazing. It is the greatest honor being able to play here. It’s intimidating because there’s so much history on it.”
I really enjoy watching the players on the links-style courses. The types of shots required to score well on these courses differ drastically from the perfectly manicured country club courses the LPGA (and PGA) usually host their tournaments on. Its fun to watch the creativity and shot-making skills needed to hit out of deep pot bunker or putt over a huge mound in the middle of the green. Wake up early this weekend and check out the tournament on TV…it will be worth your time!

As we prepare to launch a second version of our Skill Challenge tournament, I wanted to take some time out to recognize the players who achieved the best scores from our first tournament. We tried to design the Skill Challenge so scoring under 100 would be a noteworthy achievement, but we quickly learned that posting a score under 100 would happen early and often. In fact, we had 111 players score under the 100 point milestone!! Congratulations to all of the players who earned their way into our first World Golf Tour Hall of Fame!!
