New Skill Challenge - April 3rd!
We will be launching a modified skill challenge on Thursday, April 3rd, with some new shots from Bali Hai! We didn’t have too much to work with in terms of photos, but I hope this holds you over for a little bit. With the new challenge we are going to wipe out the current leaderboard and start new. You will be able to keep your awards and teams, but your scores, stats and replays will be deleted.
Thanks for your patience as we are working hard on our full version which will launch this summer!

On the current World Golf Challenge, the ball flight on hole 7 comes in from the back side of the green. The flight path should have the ball approaching the green with the water hazzard on the right not the left as is currently the case.

I just shot a 76.8 with the beginner clubs. Does anyone know what the low is with beginner, just for relative comparison? I can’t think I can do much better than

Is the full version going to be free to play? I certainly hope so.

Can’t wait for the new version.
I play exclusively with the beginner clubs and I’ve gotten 56.14. But I think someone has gotten in the upper 40s with the begginner clubs. I’m sure I could get my score into the 40s or maybe even 30s, simply based on the scores on my last 3 holes of that round!
I’d try the pro clubs, but my computer can be tempermental sometimes.

Yes, the full version of the game will be free to play. Roughly 90% of our content will always be free, but if you want to play in some tournaments or upgrade your equipment in the game there will be a small fee.

Just rolled a 56.70 with the pro clubs for 73rd place! Too bad they’re wiping it away tomorrow…

I know that Sammy who has a low score of 41.62 uses beginners clubs. For awhile, I believe he was in first place.
USAPatriot said,
April 2, 2008 at 9:59 pm
I use the beginner clubs and the best I’ve done is 124…but many times I’ve been on track to beat 80 only to screw it up at 8 or 9. And if *I* don’t screw it up then my connection or computer does. There’s nothing worse than having a low score and then watch the swing indicator hiccup as I click the mouse.
Once or twice I even swear that the software did *something” different to foil me. I’ve noticed that when my scores are low that the ball spin setter/indicator has this funny tendency to change it’s setting and the backspin I was expecting instead evaporates as my ball lands and shoots clean off the green. Anyone else have that indicator change like that?
Holes 4 and 8 are my problem children. I just can’t get them right with any consistency. 2 is hit or miss. I find if I put the aimpoint clear off the green and try for a “perfect” swing then I can land it on the fringe around 50% of the time, but I can’t ace it. I’m using a 7 iron, full swing and just a touch of backspin. -Rod-
medobbs said,

For hole 2, here’s what I do: 7 iron, almost full backspin (one dot up from bottom for a 3 mph wind, 2 dots up for a 2 mph wind), and power between the chin and shoulder. See if that helps in the next few hours!

Anyone having trouble accessing The Challenge today 4/3? Was looking forward to playing some new holes but the game freezes after I click on “Play the Challenge”. Wondering if there are some bugs being worked out today?
GWolf said,

New challenge is fun. Also love that my team has been leveled out. One of our guys ran a 75 that none of us could seem to beat. I totally can’t wait for the full version of this.
GWolf said,

Main question: Do most of you use Pro clubs? It’s what I’ve been using the whole time, but it seems everyone else on my team uses the Beginner clubs. Am I doing something wrong?

Welp, honestly, not too impressed with the new setup. There are a couple new looking shots, but most look too similar; some I can’t tell if they have even changed.
Michael said,

The new challenge is buggy. I hit a shot on #2 about 15 feet from the pin and the game scored the shot at 317.2 feet.
Chris said,
April 3, 2008 at 1:34 pm
I agree with Michael. The game is adding like 270 feet after your shot comes to a rest. Plus a lasered a shot at #4 and it said it went out-of-bounds, just 70 yards off of the tee?
Michael said,
April 3, 2008 at 1:35 pm
It happened again on the same hole, this time I saved a replay of it

The funny thing is that it is scoring 300 something feet, I am landing it within 15 feet, and the “Shot Distance” gadget on the bottom right of the screen is reading 47 feet. 1 shot, 3 different numbers

We are looking at the scoring issues right now. I’ll post an update as soon as we have an answer.
Thanks.
TheCaptain said,

I put one within a foot on #2. 328 feet. Sweet.
I haven’t played the old challenge in a while, but having new angles has renewed my interest. And having the old 8, with less wind, at #3 is so much better. Now I can ruin my round much earlier and reset!
Bitterlush said,

Scoring issue happening to me as well (3ft away, giving me a 328). I’ll try again tomorrow.

Having the same scoring issue on the 2nd hole as everyone else. Shot a two footer and put me out at 311 feet.
Nice changes, besides that…

Rich…it’s been 2 hours and I still can’t get it closer than 300 feet on #2. What’s the deal bro?
Dave said,
April 3, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Something I noticed. At least in firefox, if you don’t clear out cookies, you keep playing the old course. Not a big deal, but it uses the scores for the high-scores. Obviously using the old course it’s much easier to score well as everyone is used to it.
Probably the same in IE, but haven’t checked yet.

The changes to the game stink! playin the same hole from different positions sucks! it was better before and waaay more interesting.

well the new set up i sgood. and i see they changed the chip also now when you hit the fairway and the ball bounces twice it doesnt stop as before and also when it hits the greens most of the time the ball will run through. also as usuak when i get a shot under 10 ft the next 2 shots are bad just like before. i guess they computer chip makes the game not the player.
USAPatriot said,

On those long shots you need to land short of the green is all. I aced #3 and after burying the next dozen shots on that hole in the bunker I finally got the message. Forget the wind, move your aim point right of the hole and land short. Something less than full backspin should get you close. On 4, put your aim point right next to the tree, full backspin and full swing with the 4 iron. That’ll get you close then it’s a matter of fine tuning it. This is going to be a TOUGH challenge. I think I’ve only shot master once so far. Most have been Pro, but there’s been a few Amateur’s as well. It’d be nice if we could select the hole we want to practice on. A “Replay Hole” option in addition to “Restart” would be good. -Rod-

Much better, but you wind physics are still off on some holes.
# 3 and what view do you use to set your shot? if you hit space bar, and line it that way, you have 3 different spots for the shot view, the hole ‘picture” on the right screen, and the space are all different postions.
But much much better
USAPatriot said,
April 5, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Robert, hopefully the blog will let me post a link. Click it and you’ll see my aimpoint for #3. The green is way too fast to hit directly and even hitting here I sometimes go 20 feet past. Sometimes I come up short too, so it’s a crap shoot:

Thats where i aim as well. I put the ball up in my stance, and full backspin, and I use the hybrid and take a little off of it. I think ive gotten 3-4 feet from the hole, if you miss hit it, you are either in the bunker or short right.
USAPatriot said,
April 7, 2008 at 2:56 am
I don’t do as well with the hybrid. I always wind up short so use the wood but it’s much harder to control the distance. Either club allows for no errors though. I can see why the scores are so high and I’m pretty sure that the top 25 scores are actually scores played from cached versions of the old course. -Rod-

You should make sure you clear your cache in your browser to get the new holes. From our homepage hit Ctrl-F5 keys to automatically clear your cache and then try to load the game. Let me know if there are problems after you try this. Thanks.

Having tried to get onto the new course about half a dozen times
today, I have just succeeded, without any hassle.
If you have done something at your end to make this possible, thank you,
If not, it must be fate
Many thanks again

I agree with Kerz on #6. Im using the beginners and i’ve havent heard the hear t beat yet. I did better on the old #8. I think you guys should take a look at it. Other holes seem fine. Some hard and some easier. GJ

I think the new challenge is great, however, I was a top 10 contender on the old challenge and for the life of me I can’t master #6 on the new one. I can consistantly get within 10 feet on all the other 8 holes, but that par 3 has got me baffled……..HELP!!!

Can I join the chorus singing for hints on #6. I can only land it on the green by some fluke of the p.c. rather than my skill with club selcetion, spin, wind etc etc.

hallo everyone who play this beautiful game.
I don t know ? what is next when i finsch wth this nine hole.Thank you.
USAPatriot said,
April 20, 2008 at 1:49 am
You have to land it on the fringe and even then the ball’s not going to stop close to the hole. It’ll just shoot on past. I use 3-Iron, full up in my stance, full backspin. Usually I put the aim point near the tip of the flag’s shadow and your swing has to be perfect. Early and you hit the green, late and you’re in the water. -Rod-

The trick to #6 (with the pro series clubs) is to use the pin shadow as your guide with regard to wind speed. The more wind, the closer to the fringe you should go. Stay with the 5 iron, full up on the stance control, three clicks from full backspin on the tee. Give it about this far > — from a full swing and stop about this far > - from the perfect swing mark. I typically get the heartbeat every time. Good luck guys…
