I have a mac and am running safari. Every time I click play the challenge, my browser shuts down. I have been playing a lot up till today “gjbesq24″ so I am wondering if the update is causing the problem

I have been having problems with hole number 4. The screen freezes on a view of the green/pin. I am using mozilla firefox.

Found another bug. Everytime I hit my ball into the crystal clear water the ball disappears ;)

I have that same problem. A soft bounce would be nice. My play sucks, but I did manage to ace the new #3 hole. -Rod-

All right, another “bug”. Ive never hit the pin before and Ive done so 3 times in the last 15 minutes. Instead of being right next to the hole Im bouncing 60 feet away. If this variable is new, the frequency it has been coded into the game is too high.

I’ve only hit the pin once and that was prior to this game. It was on hole #1 and I bounced halfway back to where I started. I think you just had a run of bad luck.

Are there two different courses on the beta version? When I play, I see the same holes as before with different wind and green speeds. A friend logged in and plays a different set of holes.

Anyone else having the same issue?

I’d assume the same way that you hear a heartbeat right after the ball is struck. The calculation is made when the club strikes the ball. As for the timing of some events, my computer’s display often lags behind what’s going on in the server’s brain. But that’s a function of my connection and my computer. -Rod-

I think there is a problem with the wind on hole #3. I just hit a shot aimed straight at the hole, with 1mph wind ( which, according to the arrow should have pushed the ball slightly to the right) , hit a perfect swing, and the ball went 19 feet to the left of the pin. How can this be?

i have the identical issue that arreferee discussed on april 4th

i.e, When I play, I see the same holes as before with different wind and green speeds not a different set of holes.

Hole 1, Visually, ball landed on the second cut of rough near the water. It even shows it in the replay. On the scorecard it reports GIR.

I like the increased varibles regarding windage and green speeds. IMO…makes it more realistic. Just give us 18 holes of realism / reality!!!!

BTW….bugs aside…this is the best golf game on the Web! Thanks for making it free. I hope the good times last!

One other thing. A couple of these greens are like hitting the cartway asphalt. Is that intentional?

  16. Mark said,

The replay feature isn’t working. I saved an ace and it shows it resting 3 feet from cup. I saved another that hit the pin and it shows it landing in the bunker.

can someone tell how can a ball that hits 8 cuts from a green run through the green and come out 64 feet from the hole. I have been playing golf for 30 yrs and neve rhave i seen a ball do that. as i said in the past the computer is playing the game not the person.

Why don’t you have two challenges. Keep the first one with all the low scores and have this new one as a second challenge. Then you can have the 18 hole full challenge as another one.

    any solution to my issue?

Panther3, try clearing out your cache in your browser on your work computer. It is likely just using the old photos in your cache. Let me know if that fixes it.
    Thanks.

I have an hp 4000 workstation running xp. Every time the challenge loads up I get an add-on problem with the adobe flash. The adobe flash I’m using is the most current one. Any advice would be appreciated.

Please note I didn’t have any problems until the change over on April 3.

This course is tougher somehow. My low is 95, but I have a hard time breaking 200 on a regular basis. Very challenging.

For those challenge junkies out there, here is another thing to go after. I was having a very bad round and started wondering how bad I could really make it. If you actually try, on every hole, to max your score, it is actually just as challenging as going after a low score. I was able, only once, to break 4000 by using certain penalty opportunities that outweighed the yardage loss of getting to the sand, water or whatever. If you just hit every hole one yard you end up in the high 3000’s, but breaking 4000 is actually very hard to do!

I should get back to work now…

  28. robert said,

I recently played this course. I got to tell you agins, your physics are WAY off. to hit 3, for instance, aim in way into the ” rough” slow hit the green, and it travels 100 feet? NO WAY I showed it to the greenskeeper and he was ticked. Also, as I have said, and several others, how to you align a shot with the right range of the wind, hit it perfectly, and the wind pushes it 26 feet opposite of the wind?

I have been a scratch player for 20 years, and I will tell you how to play this game. If you have ever played golf, forget about what a golf f balls does, forget the wind, and play this a 1,000 times. In other words, play the game dont play golf. Ths could be a great game, and it is fun to play, but please, it has no relation to what a golf ball does. A 6 mph wind to the right, even if you aim at the flag, square hit, it doesnt go 50 feet to the left. It doesnt happen. sorry I know it beta, but if your going to market at “realism” you have alot of work to do.

so play the game, dont try it like playing golf. I’d applogize to the green keeper, he said ” those are not my greens, I’d be fired if they were

  29. USAPatriot said,

    Robert,

I have to agree. I try and drop the ball about 10 feet back from the green on 3 with just about 1/2 backspin. Often I still go past the pin. The ball may barely dribble onto the green but then it accelerates forward in a most unnatural way. I did manage to ace it once though.

6 is all but unplayable. Even with full backspin, dropping the ball onto the fringe still sends the ball clear past the hole and often off the green. The greens act like it’s 2pm with zero humidity and that’s not Georgia weather. Maybe the green conditions could change according to “time of day”, which means they’d be slower in the morning, faster in the afternoon. With an AI built into the game, the “time of day” could be cued from the player’s own computer time.

8 is similar. I have to land the ball way back in the rough to get anywhere within 20 feet.

I like 4…if you use the background trees as markers and use different trees from 4,5,6 and 7 mph wind speeds, you can get close. I’ve nearly aced it. -Rod-

For the record, this game it totally addictive. When the full version with 18 holes comes out I may as well kiss my productivity goodbye.
I got a small glitch yesteray. When I was starting a new round after loggin in, the hole did not appear. It was just the image of the pin thatusually appears at start up and I swung blind and hit the bal (I could not see my golfer or the ball or the green). When the second hole came up it was back to normal.

Can anybody give me a hint on #6 ? I even ran a spreadsheet of my scores, wind, spin etc etc and still cannot get it land anywhere within 10′

  35. rich said,

If you are using the Beginner clubs, make sure you hit the “S” key to display the Stance control. Here you can move the ball to the front of your stance so it will fly higher in the air. I use the 3-iron, ball in front of stance, and full backspin. If you land it on the fringe or edge of green you can get within 10 feet quite often.

  36. USAPatriot said,

    April 18, 2008 at 1:57 am

Rich, in this iteration of the game, I’ve yet to get within 20 feet of the pin on 6. That’s landing on the fringe, 3 iron, full up in the stance, full backspin. Usually the ball just blows on off the green. Last night I just managed to hold it on the edge. The line was near perfect, probably going past the hole within an inch or two. My aimpoint is the shadow of the flag on the fringe. -Rod-

Rich, here’s what I mean. It’s a little offline but the result is typical. I definitely hit the fringe. It simply won’t hold:

I have to agree with the others. There are some serious inconsistencies with this new version. Hole 3 for instance. Same wind, but I can hit a perfect swing one time and land in the bunker, and the next perfect swing is way right. I don’t know if this is the new “gusty winds” feature but it’s very frustrating to have to guess at where to hit it.

Other than that, this IS the best online golf game I’ve ever played…even though the new hole 6 is almost impossible to do well on.

Jeff, per your suggestion, I tried to get the highest score possible. Ended up with a 6895. It was easy to break the number; just place the directional directly to the left or right of the player, choose the driver and hit it (out of bounds). It wasn’t any challenge at all, in my opinion.

Consistency is not a word that could be applied to this beta. The first beta had much more feel. Seems to need an awful lot of work. I’ll check back later, but I have a feeling I won’t see any improvements..Hope I’m Wrong….

  41. LBBV said,

Azpats…I couldn’t agree more. For instance, on hole 4, I can hit the same shot with the same wind and sometimes it comes up way short, other times it rolls 30 feet off of the back of the green

Hole 2, same conditions, sometimes a perfect shot will go in the left bunker. Other times a perfect shot will roll to the pin.

I know there are “gusty winds” but in REAL golf, I can get a feel for those winds and play accordingly. Very frustrating to have so little control

Of course, it doesn’t help that I’m addicted to this dang game ;-)

The worst part is having a great score going and to play what you THINK is a great shot only to find some unseen gusty wind blow it off course by a mile.

Tiger couldn’t make contact with a golf ball at the mid-marker white stripe if he had to hit it at the speed the line presently travels. Please delete the foot graphic and,if necessary, keep the notes. I’m 81 - years old and I feel as if I’m trying to make contact with a major league fastball

I don’t want to seem a pest, but video changes from one venue to another are very slow and erratic. Is there any way to speed up the procedure and deliver continuity to the scene changes?
