Time to Call in the Golf Fashion Police?

The great thing about golf attire is the latitude players have for self-expression. This of course opens the way for going too far, as I discovered today when I stumbled on the Flair Hair Visor and Bang-Go Cap:

Make a Difference with $1

Posted in Fun Stuff at 3:49 pm by alex

From Friday, Aug. 29 through Monday, Sept. 1, you can show your support for the families of our troops while doing what you love–by donating a minimum of $1 during a round of golf for Patriot Golf Day. All funds raised will benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation to provide educational scholarships to families of those who have become disabled or have lost their lives in the line of duty. In 2007, some 3,200 golf facilities nationwide participated in Patriot Golf Day, raising more than $1 million dollars. You can look up participating golf courses in your state here: http://www.playgolfamerica.com/index.cfm?action=patriot

Your Picks for the 2008 PGA Championship?

Posted in Pro-Golf News, Fun Stuff at 6:22 pm by alex

The final major of the golf season is upon us! The 90th PGA Championship will be played beginning this Thursday at Oakland Hills in Michigan, and here at WGT headquarters, we are having a little office competition where each of us picks four players who we think will do best in the tournament. At the end of the tournament, we total up the scores for our players, and the person with the lowest score wins the office bragging rights.

Who are your four picks?

Bad Economy, Great Golf Deals

Posted in Equipment, Fun Stuff at 3:33 pm by alex

Everywhere you look these days there is a sale, promotion, or give-away going on. Kind of makes me think about all the things I overpaid for when times were better. No matter, getting in on the good deals now will average things out, right? Here are some promotions we came across that we thought we’d pass on:

Callaway Gas Card (ends tomorrow!): Free gas card with purchase of driver
Hilton Garden Inn Golf Giveaway: Stay overnight, get a round of golf for two
Edwin Watts Summer Clearance Sale: 50% off drivers
Golfsmith: $25 gift card with purchase of qualifying driver
TGW: Additional 40% trade-in value promotion

Whether you are off to someplace exotic or having a simple barbecue in your backyard, WGT wishes you a wonderful Fourth of July! We found this helpful map that pinpoints some of the popular fireworks shows, and thought we’d pass it along. Have fun :)

World Series of Golf on CBS June 28 & 29

Posted in World Golf Tour News, Fun Stuff at 3:52 pm by alex

WGT is a proud sponsor of the 2008 World Series of Golf in Las Vegas, and a couple of us got to go and experience the fun. In case you are unfamiliar with the event, it’s an amateur-only tournament that has been described as “the texas hold ‘em of golf”. Players ante on each tee, and the player who wins all the money from the other players in his group advances to the next round.

The show will air on CBS June 28 & 29 from 2-3pm EST. Click here to check your local listings.

Here are some photos we took while we were there:

Happy Father’s Day!

Posted in Fun Stuff at 9:00 am by alex

Today is Father’s Day, a holiday often associated with personalized ties, sentimental mugs, and large quantities of meat and beer. Personally, I don’t mind these clichés. Father’s Day is about getting together with family and celebrating fatherhood, and if kitsch and food bring families together, great. As for me, my dad is abroad so I won’t be able to celebrate with him, but the rest of the clan is getting together for a BBQ and some heavy drinking.

How are you celebrating Father’s Day?

Will We See You at Torrey Pines?

Posted in Pro-Golf News, Fun Stuff at 1:02 pm by alex

The U.S. Open is underway in San Diego, and a couple of WGT staffers will be there tomorrow through Sunday to take in the action. We will be decked out in WGT shirts and hats, and we’ll send a nice gift to anyone we meet wearing WGT apparel. Hint: you will likely find us hanging around the 18th green. Hope to see you there!
