HBO Sports is debuting a new film about the early years of iconic golfers Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, and Jack Nicklaus, and their historic match-up at the 1960 U.S. Open. Back Nine at Cherry Hills: The Legends of the 1960 U.S. Open is not just for golf fans but fans of history as it seamlessly intertwines the lives of three sports greats against the backdrop of a great historical era.

The WGT staff loves snacking. Now that it’s crunch time, we go through half a dozen bags of sweets every week. We also love anything golf-themed, so these photos of golf cupcakes really got us salivating. Oh well, back to the Snickers bars…
Some live on golf courses, others on golf balls…it’s all a matter of perspective. I’ve seen a lot of close-up shots of golf balls, but never one with Atlantic slippers clinging on. Wonder if they have a Plan B ready for high tide.
PGA and LPGA professionals nationwide are offering free 10-minute golf lessons during the month of May. For those WGT players who don’t play real golf, this is a great way to be introduced to the game. Hurry though, there are less than 10 days left in the month!
Danny has come a long way since his days as a caddy at Bushwood. No more caddyshack for Danny. He’s in the big leagues now on shot #7 on the World Golf Tour Charity Challenge. Great Shot! See this and more videos on youtube. Post your own shots on the tube and you may get something special from the WGT team.
FERRARAH achieved the first hole in one during the event and sent us a clip. Being the nice Web 2.0 guys we are, we decided to support Youtube and posted it! FERRARAH you are now famous.
Now for all of you who have great shot we want to see them! Save them as a replay in the game and then either record and post them on youtube or email us with your user name and relay number at members@worldgolftour.com and we will post them for you. Remember you have to save them as a replay first.
I flew down to Las Vegas to watch the final round of the World Series of Golf earlier this week. By the time I got to Primm Valley Golf Course where they played the tournament the players were already on the 4th hole and one player had already been knocked out. I wrote about my experiences playing in a test tournament for this format about 2 months ago. It’s where golf and Texas Hold’em poker combine to make the greatest new betting format around! Essentially, all the players must ante before each hole (the ante doubles every 3 holes) and then the players bet after each shot during the hole and each player can call, raise or fold. Whoever ends up with all chips at the end of the day wins the tournament. The players had to qualify each day to move on to the next round. It was a very exciting finish in this inaugural event. The final four players included two professional poker players (Phil Ivey & Rhett Butler), Paul Schuller (an electrician from Washington) and Mark Ewing (an ex-daytrader from Orange County). Ivey got taken out early in the back nine and the remaining three players lasted through the 16th hole when Ewing went all-in and took out the other two players. For his great play, Ewing took home $250,000!!! Not bad for a 10 handicapper! He definitely seemed the most steady of all the players, although Butler looked like a pretty good player himself. There were camera crews following them and interviewing them after each hole. It was amazing they kept their composure with all the pressure on them. The World Series of Golf will be televised on NBC June 23rd and 24th. Make sure you watch it and see how much fun it was. Then next year, find an extra $10,000 and enter the tournament yourself!!
Check out this story running at PGA.com. Apparently the Caddies get new Benz’s for the week and players get Maybachs. If only we could all be so lucky. This is great news however since the Wachovia benefits WGT’s good friends at www.teachforamerica.com .
“The Wachovia Championship is known for taking care of the players. That extends to the caddies, too… They already get valet parking at Quail Hollow. But imagine Johnny Buchna’s surprise when he got a letter from Tournament Director Kym Hougham a few years ago informing him the defending champion’s caddie gets a courtesy Mercedes-Benz for the week. The player does OK, too, getting a Mercedes Maybach for the week. But it’s hard to find another tournament that provides a luxury courtesy car for a caddie.”
