Tips for Hole #6

Posted in Game Tips at 11:53 am by alex

Hole #6 on the Charity Challenge is arguably the toughest to master on WGT. Luckily, many helpful WGT players have offered tips to make a decent shot. Below are a few of them, so try some out and let us know how they worked out!

Greggles
“The trick with no.6 is (if you use pro clubs, which you should) to put the ball at the front of your stance, with backspin halfway between the centre and the bottom, you then can either aim left at the hump and purposely fade it (if you aim left then you can totally slice it and it will be ok) onto the fringe and it rolls close, or you can leave the aim and fade it less (about half way between the “perfect shot” and the “push” line), as for power it’s about 1/2 cm from full…this is a risky shot but can be very good.”

“The trick to #6 is…..SWITCH TO PRO CLUBS! If you’re just starting to play this game, use beginner clubs for 2 weeks tops, then switch to Pro Clubs. If you’ve played hole #6 400 times already with Beginner clubs, you’re way overdue to switch. Trust me, you can’t get any decent scores with beginner clubs on this course, and small amount of time you invest in getting used to the faster speed will be worth it within a week, as you will get scores much lower than you ever would have gotten otherwise.”

“The trick on #6 is to go after it. If you play it safe, the best you can do is ~17 feet. If you aim for the fringe, like on the old #2, it will sometimes hit and slow down and get you within 10 feet. But it’s an all-or-nothing shot, if you miss hit it, you’re probably in the water. I use the beginner clubs, full backspin, about 5 ticks less than full power on the 3-iron, and aim at the bump on the fringe. I think I have gotten under 10 feet about 3-5 times.”

“Closest I got was using 1 club short, max power, and hitting left of best shot, maybe 2mm? It hits fringe and rolls over hill and down. I got that shot maybe 4-5 times total out of 400? :) Always inside 15ft.”

“Only way I am able to get inside 30 ft, is to use club short, max top spin, max power and hit left of the perfect by —>”

Battle at the Top - Tips to play

Posted in World Golf Tour News, Game Tips at 11:51 am by Ted

On the second day we had our first sub 100 score posted by TAYLRT with a 94.53, who went in to the closing of the day with the lead.  However on the 3rd day MFR821 posted commanding 85.35 to take over the lead.  These guys are posting incredible scores and they are a testimony to that fact that practice makes perfect.

Here are some tips on how you can improve your game:

  • use the space bar to zoom into the green to more accurately aim your shot.
  • while zoomed in, look at the green and see where it slopes
  • aiming for the flag is not always the best, let the ball roll to the hole
  • use the “s” key to control where the ball is placed in your stance
  • the further up the ball is to your front foot, more reverse spin and height is achieved
  • swinging 100% is not always your best bet, club up and take an easier swing
  • the less power you swing with the larger the sweet spot and easier it is to time the hit.
  • avoid the water :)

If you have more tips post your comments here!

First Day’s Leader - JAMESVON

Posted in World Golf Tour News, Game Tips at 2:33 pm by Ted

Player if the Day
So after one full day of play Jamesvon from Massashusetts emerged as the leader with a very impressive score of 136.20. What is even more impressive is that Jamesvon achieved this score with the Beginner series TaylorMade R7 clubs. It will be interesting for him try the R7 TP pros set and see what low score he can achieve. If you want to change clubs, simply log-in, go to your profile, and select change clubs. The TP set is a lot harder to use, but much more rewarding if you can hit the sweet spot.
